The Covid-19 lockdown hasn't stopped a Kettering community choir from hitting the high notes.

Weekly Zoom rehearsals have meant more than a singalong to the Cransley Hospice Community Choir during the lockdown, especially for those shielding at home.

The group of singers, led by Ruth Humphrey, usually gather once a week but haven't been able to meet in person because of coronavirus restrictions.

But they continued to meet, albeit virtually, through a weekly Zoom practice session - despite a "hysterical" first rehearsal as many had never heard of or used the conference platform.

Choir administrator Pam Humphrey said: “The first rehearsal was hysterical!

"Lots of “can you see me, I can hear you” and with the usual internet hitches, people were dropping out or freezing which had everyone in stitches.

“Ruth now has it well organised and mutes us all, but we had the occasional solo when we first started.”

Their carefully chosen uplifting songs have cheered everyone up and brought the group closer together and with the help of each other more than half the choir have managed to join the sessions.

As well as singing, the group have raised almost £100 for Cransley Hospice by holding a virtual 'Who am I?' quiz where singers had to try and match names to the members' baby faces.

They remain hopeful, subject to Government guidelines, to be able to put a concert on later in the year to raise the roof with a burst of Somewhere over the Rainbow.
