These are 12 of the areas in Northamptonshire where numbers of Covid-19 cases are rising fastest.

Latest Government figures show Northampton now has most of the areas where the virus is spreading fastest — Billing & Riverside, Abington Vale, Wootton & Collingtree, Eastfield, Cliftonville & Rushmere and King's Heath & Spencer.

Redwell and Croyland areas of Wellingborough are also among those with the biggest increase in cases.

But rural locations around Brixworth, Bugbooke, Blisworth and Roade are also starting to feature on the list.

Data analysts use areas of roughly equal population — known as Middle Layer Super Output Areas — each with an average of 7,200 people. They allow a four or five day period after raw data is published for corrections to be made, convert the figure into a figure assuming each area had a population of 100,000 then add the numbers to an interactive map.

Public Health officials last week admitted recent spikes in numbers of new positive tests had turned into a "worrying trend" right across the county and leading to an increase in admissions at the county's main hospitals.

Northamptonshire remains in the lowest tier on the Government's Covid Alert System while neighbouring areas in Coventry and Leicester are in tier two.

Northampton Borough Council leader Jonathan Nunn told Friday's weekly media briefing: "Northampton being significantly higher than the rest of the county is really frightening.

"We're in tier one, we wait to see if there is any change from the government. we could hear in the next 24 hours, I wouldn't be surprised but we won't fight it."
