A spokesman for Wellingborough Council said: "The Borough Council of Wellingborough has, with regret, made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions and to ensure the safety of our residents during this time.

"The council is following health and safety guidance issued by Government regarding the current coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic."

Last year's walk also had to be cancelled due to coronavirus.

The international Waendel Walk started in 1979 as a one-day event offering two walks, 43km and 29km.

479 people signed up to walk and 355 of those tried the 43km walk.
