Weetabix confirms coronavirus case at Burton Latimer factory

A member of staff at Weetabix's Burton Latimer factory has tested positive for coronavirus, the cereal company has confirmed.

The positive test is the latest north Northamptonshire workplace to be hit with the virus after news of an outbreak at the Tayto factory in Corby, where staff say there are 16 employees with coronavirus.A Weetabix spokesman said: "We can confirm that one of our employees at our Burton Latimer site has tested positive for coronavirus.

"We’re keeping in close contact and understand that our colleague has mild symptoms and expects to make a full recovery quickly."

The spokesman said that, as a precaution, they have notified the 'wider team' of the confirmed case.

But the firm does not believe social distancing measures at the site were compromised.

The spokesman added: "In line with government guidelines, our strict Covid-19 practices have been fully adopted and deployed in this and all our plants, with increased cleaning schedules remaining in place to ensure the safety of the team who continue to do great work to feed the nation."
