Two more deaths involving Covid-19 have been confirmed in Northamptonshire's two hospitals today (Saturday, June 27).

It takes the total number of deaths at NGH and KGH to 503.

The death at KGH occurred yesterday on Friday, June 26. The death at NGH was recorded the day before, Thursday, June 25.

The NHS confirmed 78 deaths today across all hospital trusts in England. The daily confirmations often include deaths that have occurred within the last five days.

There is a delay in reporting as tests are carried out or death certificates are recorded to confirm coronvirus was involved.

There have been 291 deaths at NGH and 212 at KGH. The Care Quality Commission has reported 127 deaths in Northamptonshire's care homes up to June 19.

It takes the county's death toll to 629.

Northamptonshire's Director of Public Health, Lucy Wightman said: “Whilst there are increasing signs of normality returning, we must remember that the virus continues to be in circulation and the risk posed by local outbreaks remains significant.

"Following social distancing and other infection prevention and control guidelines gives us the best chance of keeping the virus transmission under control."
