Tragic coronavirus death toll rises at KGH as eight patients die

Eight more coronavirus patients at Kettering General Hospital have tragically lost their life.

The deaths at the Rothwell Road hospital were confirmed this afternoon (Wednesday) by NHS England, bringing the death toll there to 136.

Staff battling the crisis have now seen at least one Covid-19 patient die every day for 32 days in a row, going back to April 10.

Of the most recent deaths one patient died on May 1, two on May 9, three on May 10, one on May 11 and one yesterday (May 12).

Two more deaths were confirmed at Northampton General Hospital, taking the death toll there to 198.

More than 400 people have now died with the virus in Northamptonshire, including more than 80 in care homes.

In England 244 more hospital Covid-19 deaths were confirmed today, bringing the total to 23,952. Just four of the patients had no known underlying health condition.

The first confirmed Covid-19 death in the north of the county was father-of-two Craig Ruston, who died at KGH in March. At the time he was believed to be the UK's youngest victim.

Joanna Klenczon, who worked at Northampton General Hospital, died on April 9 after contracting the virus.

Augustine Agyei-Mensah, a nurse who worked with patients with learning disabilities for Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT), was the second known health worker in the county to die after treatment for the virus.
