The UK's death toll now stands at more than 36,000 after NHS England confirmed a further 147 deaths in English hospitals today.

The news comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson defended chief adviser Dominic Cummings at today's daily briefing after allegations that he breached strict lockdown laws twice by visiting Durham.

Mr Johnson has come under intense pressure to sack Mr Cummings this weekend, including from Wellingborough MP Peter Bone who said Mr Cummings has to go.
