But the park had to close its gates to new arrivals for a short period to help manage the number of people wanting to visit.

A tweet from the park's account on Monday said: "Unfortunately the park has had to close for safety reasons.

"We will repost when we are back open. Thank you."

A spokesman for Northants County Council said: “A decision was made to temporarily close Irchester Country Park to new arrivals for a short period during Bank Holiday Monday.

"This was due to parking being full and to help manage capacity at the park in line with the government’s social distancing guidelines.”
