Kettering General Hospital also today confirmed another two deaths —11 of the dead were being treated there.
Public Health England announced today that 3,605 people dead have tested positive for Covid-19 across the UK. The rise of 684 on the previous figures is the highest in a 24-hour period since the outbreak hit the UK in February.
Updates are expected later regarding the number of known cases in Northamptonshire, which stood at 220 as at 9am on Thursday (April 2).
A peak in the epidemic is predicted in the next two or three weeks and NHS planners have rushed to free up nearly 400 hospital beds in Northampton and Kettering ahead of an expected surge in Covid-19 patients.
But the hospital also has 157 key staff back at work after success of a drive-thru testing station which opened at the start of this week.
