Rothwell's Montsaye Academy has confirmed its third case of Covid-19 since pupils returned to school last month.

Parents were notified of the positive test last night (October 15) in a letter, which did not outline which year group or groups at the Greening Road school are affected.

A 'small' number of pupils who had been in closed contact with the person who tested positive for the virus will now have to stay at home for 14 days, the school said.

Ann Davey, chief executive officer at Pathfinder Schools which runs the school, said: "We can confirm that we have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the Montsaye community.

"Further to the advice of Public Health England, the parents of pupils who may have been in contact with the positive case have been advised that their child should self-isolate for 14 days.

"The academy and its staff will support pupils to continue their learning remotely.

"We have worked closely with the local protection team and have taken the appropriate steps to prevent the spread of the virus to protect our pupils, staff and local community."

The first case at Montsaye was confirmed just days after pupils returned to school, with a second following earlier this month.

Both previous cases were in Year 10, it's understood.

The letter to parents last night said: "We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England."

The school remains open and parents have been told their child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well.
