A new coronavirus clinic will be opening at Corby’s Urgent Care Centre next week.

The clinic will be the second in the county, joining the provision opened earlier this month at the Waterside Campus in Northampton. The clinic is not a walk-in centre and will only be open to those referred by their GP. After being assessed at the clinic the patient may be sent home to self isolate or referred to hospital for treatment.

There are also places earmarked in Kettering, Wellingborough, Daventry and Brackley to act as coronavirus clinics, but the Local Resilence Forum – which is coordinating the coronavirus efforts in Northamptonshire – says these additional clinics will only be opened if needed.

So far 204 people have sadly died in the county’s hospitals from the new virus which has claimed more than 18,738 lives in the UK.

These figures do not include those who have died in the community.

Dr Naomi Caldwell, GP Clinical Lead for NHS Northamptonshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “We’re pleased to confirm that Northamptonshire’s second temporary clinic for people with COVID-19 symptoms will be opening at the Corby Urgent Care Centre site early next week. The new clinic will run side-by-side with the urgent care service and will be accessed separately so all patients can get the health care they need safely.

Patients must be referred to the new clinic by their GP and it is not a walk-in facility. Anyone isolating with COVID-19 symptoms (a new continuous cough or high temperature) should first visit the NHS 111 website at 111.nhs.uk for advice, but if they have an urgent medical concern – whether coronavirus related or not – they should call their own GP practice in the usual way.”
