More coronavirus victims as KGH death toll nears 200

The number of Covid-19 victims at Kettering General Hospital is nearing 200 after two more deaths were confirmed today (Wednesday).

One death took place on June 6 with the second on June 7, taking the death toll to 196.

Elsewhere in Northamptonshire one patient died at Northampton General Hospital, also on June 6, with their death toll now at 254.

Including victims at care homes, the total number of coronavirus deaths in Northamptonshire is 574.

New data suggests Kettering may be past the coronavirus peak, as reported by the Northants Telegraph today.

Nationally today NHS England confirmed 88 deaths in English hospitals, of which 21 were in the Midlands.

Of the 88 patients to die, who were aged between 43 and 102-years-old, just three had no known underlying health condition.

Four NHS trusts announced the joint-highest number of deaths today with five, including nearby University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The NHS trust with the highest death toll is University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust with 935, although it is one of the largest hospital trusts in England.

Officials are expecting a rise in the number of confirmed infections in Northamptonshire after two mobile testing units spent three days each at Northampton and Kettering over the weekend.
