KGH records five more coronavirus deaths - a daily figure higher than any London hospital

The grim death figures show no signs of abating

Kettering General hospital announced five further coronavirus deaths today (Thursday, May 28), bringing the total in the past week to 13 deaths.

Concerns are growing over the number of cases in the county which does not appear to be dropping as fast as in other areas, raising fears that the county is in the midst of a second peak of the virus.

Of today’s deaths announced at KGH, three took place on Friday, May 22, one took place on May 24 and one was on May 26.

The figure is higher than any hospital in London or the East of England announced today, and the joint fifth highest in the country. Many trusts recorded no deaths today. It is also the second highest daily total announced by KGH since April 27.

It brings the tragic hospital death toll in the north of the county to 169. There have also been 111 care home deaths attributed to Covid-19 and five at NHS Healthcare Foundation Trust.

The respected Health Service Journal also reported today that the county may be experiencing a second peak and that public health bosses were looking closely at the situation.
