Kettering cocktail bar issues warning after customer tests positive for Covid

A cocktail bar in Kettering has warned those who visited at the weekend that a customer has since tested positive for coronavirus.

Aura in Market Street, on the corner of Church Walk, has told drinkers to get tested if they were there at a similar time and feel unwell.

The popular bar issued a statement on social media this morning (Wednesday) confirming the case.

A spokesman said: "We regret to inform you that one of (our) customers on Saturday night has since tested positive for Covid-19.

"Whether or not they had the virus whilst drinking with us is unknown.

"We know that they were seated upstairs (between) 7.30pm and 8.10pm.

"If you were also with us during that time and feel unwell we urge you to get tested so that it is not spread around."

The spokesman said that they hope a track and trace team will also contact customers but they "didn't want to leave it to inform people".

They added: "Our customer has assured us a mask was worn and that they stuck to their table so we feel there is not a great risk of it spreading."

Like pubs and bars across England, Aura will be forced to close between tomorrow (Thursday) and December 2 as part of the second national lockdown.

They had previously been subject to a 10pm closing time as part of a move by ministers to control the virus.

Data shown to MPs last month by chief medical officer Professor Chris Witty suggested 41 per cent of transmissions among those under 30 happened in hospitality venues, although data from Public Health England at the time said only four per cent could be traced back to bars and restaurants.

In August Kettering's Brooklyn Bar shut after an employee tested positive for the virus.
