Kettering bar shuts after worker tests positive for Covid

Those who recently visited a Kettering bar may be contacted by the NHS test and trace service after a worker tested positive for Covid.

Brooklyn Bar in Ebenezer Place is closed after the member of bar staff confirmed they had caught the virus.

The bar will remain closed until "thoroughly cleaned and disinfected".

It has strongly advised their staff to self-isolate and get tested at one of the county's testing sites, and has advised any customers to self-isolate if they have any symptoms.

It's not been confirmed how many people recently visited the venue, but Brooklyn Bar confirmed they have details of people who visited on Friday and Saturday night.

They said they would share details with the NHS who would undertake a risk assessment. Those who came into contact with the affected worker may now be contacted and advised to self-isolate.

The bar, which refurbished its beer garden in lockdown and re-opened on July 31, moved to deny social media rumours that the man who tested positive was working with symptoms or while waiting for test results.

They said Public Health England are guiding them through this "unfortunate" event and are expected to provide a further update this morning (Monday).

Residents in Kettering are currently being asked to follow a series of extra guidance to avoid a local lockdown, including limiting contact with people outside their household or bubble, but bars and pubs remain open.

So far more than 200 people who contracted Covid-19 have died at Kettering General Hospital.
