Four more Covid-19 victims takes total to 476 in Northamptonshire's hospitals and care homes

Four more people have today been added to the official total of Covid-19 victims in Northamptonshire hospitals and care homes.

Government figures released on Thursday (May 20) revealed three of the latest deaths reported in the 24 hours up to 5pm yesterday (Wednesday) were at Northampton General Hospital — one on May 18 and two more on May 19.

Frontline NHS staff battling the coronavirus crisis at the Cliftonville site have now seen 217 patients die since 92-year-old man became the first victim there on March 16.

Another patient died at Kettering General Hospital on Monday (May 18), taking the total there to 154 — and 371 across to the two NHS trusts.

In addition, the Office for National Statistics has confirmed 105 coronavirus-related deaths in Northamptonshire's care homes, up to May 15.

That takes the total number of known victims so far to 476 county-wide.

Figures relating to care homes are based on Care Quality Commission data released weekly and showed 21 victims in Northamptonshire care homes between May 8 to May 15 — including eight in a single day on May 12.

Across the UK, another 338 people deaths related to Covid-19 were recorded in all settings on Wednesday. That takes the total number of known UK victims to 36,042 according to the Department for Health.

The number of positive Covid-19 tests in Northamptonshire stood at 1,354, a rise of 29 in the previous 24 hours when the latest figures were collated at 9am yesterday (May 20).
