NHS officials today revealed four more Covid-19 patients have died at Northampton General Hospital.

The latest victims takes the grim total to 234 victims at the Northamptonshire's two acute hospitals in six weeks since the first deaths on March 16.

Frontline staff at the Cliftonville site battling to treat patients with the deadly coronavirus bug recorded the latest fatalities over three days between Friday April 24 and Monday April 26.

Delays in reporting may mean more deaths over weekends could be added on those and other days.

In all, 144 patients have now died at Northampton after testing positive for Covid-19 plus a further 90 at Kettering General Hospital according to NHS numbers collated at 5pm last.

These figures only include patients in the county's two main hospitals, however.

Office of National Statistcs data published earlier today (Tuesday April 28) showed 42 coronavirus-related deaths in Northamptonshire care homes between April 10 and April 24.
