Covid vaccines pass 250,000 mark in Northamptonshire

More than a quarter of a million Covid jabs have been delivered across Northamptonshire as the great vaccine roll-out rumbles on.

Latest NHS figures revealed 253,517 people — nearly 40 per cent of the target population — had received at least a first dose of the life-saving vaccine by March 7.

Another 9,803 have had the vital second dose, due up to 12 weeks after the first.

Second doses for those who had their first jabs since Christmas will start becoming due in the next fortnight.

The first pharmacies to join the roll-out in Northamptonshire — Touchwood in Northampton and Pickfords in Corby — delivered their first jabs this week, joining GP surgeries and the Moulton Park hub in the massive effort.

Moulton Park is now one of 134 mass vaccination centres in England, 15 of which opened this week alone.

Vaccinations are now being given to the following groups:

■ aged 55 and over

■ clinically extremely vulnerable who are at high risk from coronavirus

■ people who live or work in care homes

■ health and social care workers

■ anyone with a condition that puts them at higher risk — clinically vulnerable

■ those who live with a learning disability

■ people who are a main carer for someone at high risk from coronavirus

GPs are contacting those eligible while NHS letters are also being sent out offering people to opportunity to book ONLINE or by calling the national booking line 119.

A spokesman for the Northamptonshire Vaccination Service said: "We are doing all we can to ensure your journey though the Vaccination Centre is a quick and smooth one.

"We hope to avoid queuing outside the centre, but it is still possible you will have to wait. Therefore, please ensure you are dressed for the weather conditions and bring any mobility equipment you may need.

"If you have any special requirements, please make a member of staff aware when you arrive on site."
