It comes after the Gretton Road school asked special unit students and staff to stay at home last week when a member of staff tested positive.

The unit at the Brooke Weston Trust school has temporarily closed and will re-open next Monday (November 23).

Associate principal Simon Underwood said: "A student from Year 9 at Corby Business Academy has received a positive test result for Covid-19 and is now self-isolating for 10 days in accordance with DfE guidelines.

"Due to our rigorous social distancing processes and carefully planned ‘pod’ system, Public Health England has advised that only students identified as ‘close contacts’ should self-isolate as a precautionary measure for 14 days, this has helped limit the number of individuals affected.

"Last week we asked all our special unit students and staff to stay at home as a member of staff had tested positive.

"Because of the nature of the care we provide in the unit, which educates vulnerable and high risk students, it was considered prudent to close temporarily until staffing levels improve, as we cannot operate this facility properly without a full complement of trained specialist staff. The unit provision has undergone a deep clean and will re-open on Monday, November 23.

"I would like to reassure parents, carers and our community that Corby Business Academy takes the health and welfare of all our students and staff extremely seriously and we are continuing to follow all Public Health England guidelines with regard to hygiene, isolation and deep cleaning to ensure the school can operate as effectively as possible in these challenging circumstances.

"Where students are asked to isolate, we are continuing to provide online lessons, free school meals and other support as appropriate."

The school was temporarily closed for a deep clean in March after a positive Covid-19 test.

Data revealed by public health chiefs on Friday (November 13) said the county was battling 19 active outbreaks in schools and colleges.

Almost half of those (nine) were in Northampton with one in Corby.
