Lodge Park Corby has been hit harder by Covid-19 than any other neighbourhood in the borough, it has been revealed.

Corby's Covid-19 deaths by local area have been announced today by the Office for National Statistics. They show that Corby had 14 deaths related to coronavirus in the period between March 1 and April 17. Eight of them were men and six of them were women.

The statistics run up to two weeks ago but take in the peak of the outbreak which is thought to have occurred in the Midlands in early April. This is the first time the figures have been broken down outside of hospital level date. They include deaths in care homes and in the community.

Local people have been keen to access data about their own towns for many weeks but journalists who have asked for town-level data have previously been met with a wall of silence from the authorities.

Here are the number of deaths in your area broken down by local neighbourhood:

- Lodge Park, which includes parts of Willow Brook Road, Shetland Way Kingsthorpe Avenue as well as a large part of the Beanfield estate around Beanfield Avenue had four deaths. This was 22 per cent of all the deaths in the ward during that period.

- Corby Village and Weldon, which also includes Priors Hall, Stanion and Little Stanion, had one death.

- Rowlett, Gretton and Cottingham was the only area with no Covid-19 deaths in the period up to April 17.

Corby borough has had the lowest number of Covid-19 deaths in the whole county but its coronavirus death rate of 27.0 deaths per 100,000 people is average for Northamptonshire.

Lodge Park ward councillor Matt Keane said: "It is very sad to hear of any deaths in Corby and those families that are suffering have my full sympathy. There have been some concerning incidents we have heard about including a group playing football in the park but largely the response from the public has been supportive.

"I think local governments of all colours have really stepped up to the plate. We're in a really unique situation and we've all go to do our bit to make sure that we are adhering to the government's advice.

"If anyone is struggling with anything then our council is here to help. We have put in quite a lot of significant resource to help fight this thing and we will keep doing everything we can.

"People need to adhere to the government's advice - stay in your homes, only socialise with the people you live with and use your common sense to ride this one out."

The data is based on the government’s ‘middle layer super output areas’ which are loosely based on local authority wards, adjusted so that each one has about 7,500 residents to make them easier to compare.

In East Northamptonshire there were 38 coronavirus deaths (a rate of 39.6); in Kettering there were 21 deaths (a rate of 22.4); in Wellingborough there were 17 deaths (a rate of 22.8); in Northampton there were 70 deaths (a rate of 39.7); in South Northamptonshire there were 22 deaths (a rate of 24.1) and in Daventry there were 23 deaths (a rate of 27.2). All bar East Northants are below the national average death rate of 36.2.

There were 101 deaths in Corby attributed to all causes in the period covered by the figures - with an unusually high death rate for the borough of 204.6 per 100,000 people. There were officially estimated to be 70,827 people living in the borough in 2018. The figures show that 14 per cent of all deaths in the borough between March 1 and April 17 were attributed to Covid-19.

The total number of deaths at KGH, which covers the period up to yesterday, is 108.
