Some pupils at Latimer Arts College are self-isolating after a Year 9 student tested positive for Covid-19.

The school in Castle Way, Barton Seagrave, is the latest educational setting in the north of the county to be affected by a case of the virus since schools returned last month.

Parents and carers of those who were identified as needing to self-isolate were called by the school last night (Tuesday).

In a letter to parents, principal Siobhan Hearne said: "We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England."

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.

"The parents and carers of the small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

"The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well."

So far more than a dozen schools in the north of the county have been affected by Covid-19 in the first half-term of the year.

Kettering's Bishop Stopford School in Headlands has so far notified parents of three separate cases.
