Areas of Northamptonshire where coronavirus cases are among the LOWEST in the country

One part of the county saw just three positive tests in the last week

These are the areas of Northamptonshire which are 'bending the trend' by recording the lowest number of Covid-19 positive tests.

Public Health chiefs have issued warnings to stick to national lockdown rules as infection rates soar county-wide.

Yet these areas have all seen the number of lab-confirmed positive tests fall according to Government numbers collected up to November 5.

Corby tops the list with four localised areas in and around the town while Wellingborough has two and Kettering one.

Smaller towns Rothwell and Oundle also feature along with more rural areas such as Long Buckby.

But Northamptonshire's Director of Public Health, Lucy Wightman, warns that fewer positive tests in certain areas should not lead to complacency.

Mrs Wightman said: "The lockdown has given us the opportunity to bend the trend by reducing the spread of Covid-19.

"The simple fact is that dramatically reducing the number and frequency of contacts between people is a highly effective way of stopping person to person transmission.

“Staying home whenever you can is vital, however it’s also really important for Northamptonshire residents to still get a test if you have any of the symptoms of coronavirus.

"If you have a high temperature, a new continuous cough, or a loss or change to the sense of smell or taste I urge you to book a test today by going to nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119."

Latest figures issued by Public Health England last night (Tuesday) revealed more than 100 positive tests in a single day in Northampton for the first time since the pandemic began.

Lab-confirmed results from 249 people were also positive for coronavirus in the latest 24-hour reporting period — the seventh day in a row the figure has risen above 200.

Data analysts divide the country into areas of roughly equal population, around 7,200, to make comparisons. They then take the number of weekly positive Covid-19 tests in each Middle Layer Super Output Areas, divide it by the population and multiply by 100,000 to find infection rates.
