Northamptonshire passed more sombre milestones as 12 new Covid-19 victims were confirmed in the county's two main hospitals, taking the death toll past 250.

Three deaths recorded at Northampton General Hospital on Monday (April 27) and Tuesday (April 28) this week took the grim total at the Cliftonville site to 151.

And front line NHS staff at Kettering General Hospital confirmed nine more victims between April 25 and April 27, making a total of 104 in the north of the county.

Combined, that means 255 people have now lost their lives in the two acute hospitals after testing positive for the deadly coronavirus bug according to data collated at 5pm last night (Wednesday April 29).

These figures only count patients in the county's two acute NHS hospitals, however, and does not include 42 coronavirus-releated deaths in Northamptonshire care homes between April 10 and April 24 revealed in Office of National Statistics data on Tuesday.

The first deaths among Covid-19 patients in the county were on March 16.

Meanwhile, the number of positive coronavirus tests in Northamptonshire reached 1,013 according to figures collated at 9am yesterday — a rise of five cases in the previous 24 hours.

A tracking app launched by medics at two London hospitals this week estimates that one in 100 people in Northampton have Covid-19 symptoms but have not yet been tested, using live reporting data from around 3,000 subscribers.
