Corby Council is urging residents to be "extra vigilant" after the government and Public Health England expressed concern over Covid-19 cases in the borough.

Residents are being asked to follow Government guidance extremely closely to avoid a local lockdown.

Corby Council leader Tom Beattie said: "It is disappointing that Corby is in this position, but it is important now to remain positive and continue to follow the government’s guidance closely to avoid a local lockdown.

"All residents are urged to wear their face covering when entering shops, wash hands thoroughly and if you have symptoms, even if they are mild, please ensure you get tested and self-isolate if necessary."

To help avoid local lockdown, the reopening of Corby Cube has been delayed. There will be an ongoing review of the situation and the council said it hopes doors will be reopened soon.

Figures show there has been a rise in cases in Corby over the past two weeks while the majority of the country’s cases continue to lower.

As of yesterday (Thursday, July 30) there were 331 confirmed cases in Corby, a rise of nine since Wednesday, July 22.

The Government guidance that residents should be following closely include limiting contact with others outside your household, working from home if you can, keeping two metres from others where possible, using a face covering, avoiding public transport or car sharing, avoid meeting those in your bubble indoors, do not share items with those outside your household or bubble.

If you have Covid-19 symptoms, you should stay at home and self-isolate and get tested.

If you are contacted by the NHS test and trace service and asked to self-isolate, you should stay at home for 14 days and get tested.
