Wellingborough School is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Director of Drama, Alice Griffiths.

In many schools, Drama and the Performing Arts can be overshadowed by more traditional academic subjects. Yet these disciplines offer vital opportunities for young people to build confidence, creativity, and acquire behind-the-scenes skills such as lighting, sound, costume and set design, that are not typically gained through standard classroom study.

Alice brings ambition and a clear vision for the future of performing arts at Wellingborough School. She said: “What attracted me to Wellingborough School is the duality of their offer.

"They don’t simply focus on traditional performance; they also nurture skills in production, costume design, sound, lighting, and scriptwriting. It’s already a strong programme, and I’m excited to further enhance this with dance.”

From the earliest stage, every child takes part in an annual production, and once pupils reach Year 7, they enjoy two dedicated drama workshop days and opportunities to combine individual aspects of Performing Arts, such as Music, Dance and Drama through the Co-curriculum.

In the Senior School, Drama is taught from Year 8, with pupils able to pursue GCSE Drama in Years 10 and 11, and A Level Drama offering an even deeper exploration of performance and production.

This year, pupils will be performing Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’’, following previous successful productions such as Michelle Magorian’s ’Goodnight Mister Tom’, which was staged at The Castle Theatre in Wellingborough.

Alice’s appointment comes at an exciting time in the School’s development.

The final phase of their new Gateway building is nearing completion, offering pupils state-of-the-art sound and lighting facilities and a brand new 250 seat studio theatre space to showcase performances to family and friends.

Alice will play a pivotal role in shaping a new production calendar and will strengthen the School’s holistic approach to performance education, by further enhancing the curriculum with dance.

Wellingborough School will be holding an Open Day on 7th March, including tours of the Gateway building and opportunities to meet specialist teachers from the drama department.
