Two Wellingborough School pupils are off to Oxford after another impressive set of A-Level results.

The school's pass rate stands at more than 99 per cent with more than 70 per cent of grades between an A* and B.

About a third of the assessed grades from teachers, who know their pupils well, adjusted downwards by examination boards based on statistical models rather than individual performance and the school says not every achievement has been fully recognised.

They anticipate that some higher grades will be reinstated on appeal but said they are delighted that most of the cohort have been able to move successfully onto the university or other destination of their choice.

Almost 20 per cent of the upper sixth gained a clean sweep of A* or A grades, with two going on to take places at the University of Oxford.

Headmaster Andrew Holman said: “Our upper sixth deserve our heartiest congratulation having worked extremely hard for two years, and then having to endure a summer in which they might feel that the outcomes were no longer in their own hands."
