Kettering Buccleuch Academy held a virtual celebration ceremony to recognise the achievements of their school leavers as the ongoing pandemic prevented them from celebrating in person.

Students across the country have not been in school since March and Year 11 pupils should have been enjoying prom, the end of their GCSEs and a leaver's assembly but all of these have been cancelled due to Covid-19.

KBA wanted to give pupils, families and staff the opportunity to come together during this difficult time.

Students with attendance above 99 per cent over the past five years were rewarded for their commitment and other students were recognised for showing KBA's core values of respect, determination and ambition.

Five students won the most prestigious awards of the evening.

Lochlann Spence won Most Improved Student, Summer Jones won Young Hero of the Year, Kieron Hawthorn won Best Attendance and Punctuality, Joseph Humphries won Sportsperson of the Year, and Kaitlyn Chambers won Student of the Year.

Kaitlyn said: "I will never forget my time at KBA; it has been amazing! I have met some wonderful teachers who have always been there for me. I am now looking forward to starting Sixth Form in September."

Each of the five students had received a surprise visit at home to tell them about their win before the ceremony took place.

The students were nominated by their teachers for their exceptional achievements and KBA said there were excellent candidates across the year group.

Principal Dino Di Salvo said: "Congratulations to all five of our Year 11 award winners.

"From awards commending excellence in school attendance to those recognising our core values, it is fantastic to see our young people receive public recognition across such a wide range of areas.

"It is testament to their hard work and dedication, as well as our brilliant team of staff, that our students are able to nurture their talents and achieve so highly.

"All of us at KBA are extremely proud of each and every one of our Year 11 students."

The celebrations ended with a special video of more than 50 staff members saying goodbye to the school leavers, some of who will be returning in September for sixth form.
