Kettering pupils get stuck in for National Children's Gardening Week

These green-fingered youngsters have been having great fun outdoors with the help of a housebuilder.

Pupils at St Andrews CofE Primary School in Kettering got their hands dirty for National Children’s Gardening Week after housebuilder Tilia Homes donated a selection of new plants and wildlife boxes for the children to plant and learn from at school.

In a bid to help the children have fun in the garden and learn about plants that support wildlife, Tilia Homes’ landscaping team Benchmark Ground Maintenance visited the school and hosted a lesson for Year Five and Six.

Through the hands-on session, the pupils enjoyed planting new flowers in the school’s garden, as well as making special insect homes out of logs.

Ben Arnell, headteacher at St Andrews CofE Primary School, said: "Our pupils had a fantastic time learning about different species of plants and the importance they play in our ecosystem.

"We have installed the new wildlife boxes around the school and the children will enjoy watching and learning from the animals that will soon find a home in them.

"We’re delighted that Tilia Homes and Benchmark Ground Maintenance were able to spend the afternoon with us and donate all the plants, the children really enjoyed the interactive lesson.”
