Two students at Bishop Stopford School in Kettering achieved a clean sweep of grade 9s after receiving their GCSE results today.

The school praised students for their resilience after a turbulent year which saw no exams taken because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Students were awarded grades based on predictions by teachers.

Nearly 10 per cent of students achieved at least five GCSEs at grade 9 and the vast majority will now be able to progress successfully to their post-16 choices.

Headteacher Jill Silverthorne said she had nothing but admiration for the students in the way they have coped.

She said: "In a year where results have been the subject of huge national focus and where ‘unprecedented’ really is the appropriate term, we must congratulate our students on their results.

"For many of them, today will be a relief as they start a new chapter at college, in apprenticeships or at sixth form.

"As they now take these grades and move forward, we wish each one all the very best for the future."
