The David Ross Education Trust is proud to share the news that Vicky Bayley, Chair of Governors at Eastfield Academy, has been named ‘Governor of the Year’ at this year’s prestigious National School Awards.

The annual awards consist of eight categories, selected to recognise how effectively a school is run and how this benefits both staff and pupils.

The ‘Governor of the Year’ category reflects the vital role that governors play in the management and smooth running of a school. This award celebrates a school governor who has excelled in their role, providing, say the judges “exceptional advice, leadership and guidance in the running of their school.”

This award marks the third consecutive year that a governor from DRET has received a national accolade, reflecting the outstanding contribution of the volunteers who give their time and expertise to support schools in the Trust.

Awarding the prize to Vicky Bayley, the judges recognised Vicky’s exceptional and longstanding commitment to Eastfield Academy, particularly her dedication to promoting inclusion and ensuring every pupil has the opportunity to thrive.

Vicky Bayley, Chair of Governors at Eastfield Academy said: “I have been fortunate to have worked alongside brilliant children, parents and colleagues since I first became a staff Governor. The school I support now is going from strength to strength under great leadership and with a determination that every child, no matter their starting point or the challenges they face, deserves the best education and opportunities to be the best they can be.

“I would like to dedicate this award to the over 300,000 governors who volunteer their time, energy and expertise to support schools in their communities and those who came before them. In doing so, they are really supporting people and, in many cases, the most vulnerable in our country. This is important work and, done well, it has the power to change lives.”.

Simon Rose, interim CEO at David Ross Education Trust said: “Many congratulations to Vicky on this well-deserved achievement. We are incredibly proud of her and grateful for everything she does for Eastfield Academy and the Trust.”
