Virtual Race Night raises an amazing £1,080 for Northamptonshire charity
Over 90 guests packed the Burton Latimer Town Cricket Club on Saturday 2nd November for an exciting evening of virtual horse racing to raise vital funds for Age UK Northamptonshire.
The opportunity to enjoy a flutter on the gee-gees and a fabulous night out with friends was organised by Emma Atkins, the Coordinator of the charity’s day centre in Kettering. Emma has worked tirelessly for weeks to ensure the evening was a magnificent success.
"What an amazing night. I think I backed a few donkeys but it was all for a good cause!”, said Sarah, one of the participants.
Age UK Northamptonshire always needs funding to cover the cost of their free Information & Advice Service which in the last financial year helped local older people claim £2.68M. “£1,000 will pay for one hour per week of Information & Advice Service for a whole year, so we are hugely grateful to everyone who came along on the night,” said Emma.
“We are thrilled by the number of local businesses who generously supported the event by donating some spectacular raffle prizes, which ranged from a wreath-making workshop for two to a £20 gift voucher for a delicious Indian meal. And I’d like to say a huge thank you to Burton Latimer Town Cricket Club for lending us their facilities for free. We couldn't have done it without you!” said Emma.
Age UK Northamptonshire would also like to thank local businesses Pytchley Golf Lodge, Guy’s Barbershop Kettering, Tesco, The Sugar Barn, The Wayfarers Kettering, Nazreen Indian Restaurant, Rockabilly Rose The Florist, Kolaine Beauty Lounge, Tanners Lane, The Stirrup Cup, Bella’s Brows and Beauty, Jolleyes Pet Shop Kettering, Seasons Garden Centre Burton Latimer, Hannah’s Cleaning Service, Meraki Beauty for the raffle prizes. And their thanks also to Big Hire UK for their giant light-bulb covered letters and House of Mystery for organising the races and ensuring none of the riders fell at the first fence.
“There are plenty of places available at our day centres in Kettering, Northampton and Towcester and we can usually provide door-to-door transport, says Emma. ““Please get in touch on 01604 611200 if you or a relative would like to join us.”
