The Rotary Club of Rushden attended the Rushden Academy Annual Presentation of Awards being made to their Students for the Year 2024/2025.

The Rotary Club award an annual Award for the Academy’s Young Achiever of the Year – as chosen by the Academy and not necessarily for their academic or sporting achievements.

Rotarian Deborah Hynes attended and celebrated a student whose presence in the school community has been a source of unwavering strength and positive influence. The award honoured a young man who embodies consistency, maturity, and genuine leadership. This Young Man was Oliver Stanion!!

One of his teachers perfectly captured his essence, describing him as consistent, reliable, mature, empathetic, dependable and yes, funny, but always knowing where the boundaries were. What stood out most was his lifelong commitment to improvement; Oliver always wanted to do and be better. From Year 7 right through to his final day, you always knew exactly what you were going to get: a polite, well-mannered, and respectful student.

The teacher added “Oliver is the definition of a true up-stander. He constantly looked out for everyone around him and made it his business to do what was right, regardless of outside pressure. He truly modelled the behaviour we want to see, surrounding himself with good friends and acting as a role model in the truest sense”.

The teacher recently shared: "I don't think I have enough words to describe the wonderful young man he grew into. I was so very lucky to have taught him for five years, and he achieved the results he 100% deserved."

Oliver was presented with the Rotary Trophy he surely deserved!

The horses prove to be winners!

Recently the Club has held a Race Night, with Horses filmed at various unknown Race Courses, with members having a £1-00 flutter on the horse numbers of their choice. There were six races and an auction race all supplied by Bullit’s Roadshow who also ran the Tote with help from Rotarians. The Club raised around £2000 for Community Committee funds!

Trolley Dash

The Annual Trolley Dash Raffle has just taken place courtesy of the goodwill of the Waitrose Store Management, after a trial run at Higham’s Sparkle last week. The warmth of the Store is a welcome change for the Rotarians after the cold wind and downpours of the Sparkle. The target is to raise around £3000 for which the Rushden Youth Club Rush2theDen will be the beneficiary of the majority of the profits after the winner makes a dash around the store hoping to get £500 worth of products in their Trolley!!! Several helpers from the Youth Club took part in helping Rotarians to sell the tickets in the Store.

The Winning ticket was number 3050 which was won by a gentleman from Rushden who has decided that part of his £500-00 worth of goods he will collect in the Trolley Dash will be donated to the Rushden Food Bank. A generous gesture indeed!

The second Prize of a £200-00 John Lewis gift card was won by ticket number 0431 with the third prize of a £100-00 being claimed by ticket number 3017.

The Rotary Club and Rush2theDen would like to thank all those who contributed to the event and wish them all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
