Northamptonshire housebuilder donates £1,500 to local youth charity

Clubs for Young People Northamptonshire (CYPN) has received a £1,500 donation from David Wilson Homes South Midlands to support its youth inspired projects.
CYPN was originally established in 1948 when it was the county arm of the National Association of Boy’s Clubs, before becoming known under its current name in 1993.
As a charity, it’s aim is to provide accessible, fun, social activities and education for young people in the community. The programme currently operates in 10 areas across Northamptonshire, engaging young people aged 10 to 19 and up to 25 for those with special educational needs (SEN). It also supports the local youth parliament initiative throughout the county.
David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
Gemma Johnston-Smith, Youth and Community Manager at CYPN said: “We were thrilled and excited to hear that we would be receiving this generous donation from David Wilson Homes as it was completely unexpected.
“I think David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme is brilliant, and the fact that it is selected by staff who often have local knowledge about an areas need is a great idea. High quality community assets which meet the needs of the whole community, including the young people, are in great demand yet they are often overlooked.
“We would like to say a big thank you for the funds as donations like this enable us to invest in our programmes and resources as well as work to develop new projects. This provides us with the freedom to seek out new places which could benefit from youth provision and create opportunities for more young people to engage with us and enjoy our programmes.”
This donation of £1,500 will help CYPN purchase equipment for its virtual baby project providing young people with a simulated experience of the demands and responsibilities of caring for a young child as well as funding sports equipment for use across all its provisions.
Ben Kalus, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said: “As a business committed to supporting the local communities in which we build, we understand how important it is to invest in the next generation.
“Clubs for Young People Northamptonshire does incredible work in supporting young people, and we’re delighted to contribute to their efforts in building brighter futures.”
