Kettering care home empowers community with expert women’s health and menopause event

Residents, staff, and members of the local community gathered at Elm Bank Care Home in Kettering for a vital Women’s Health and Wellbeing Event focused on breaking the stigma surrounding menopause and women’s health.
The event featured an informative session by Dr Nikki Ramskill, founder of The Female Health Doctor and a British Menopause Society (BMS) accredited specialist. Dr Ramskill, who has over 17 years of clinical experience, provided an in-depth look at the hormonal transitions through menopause and perimenopause, sharing practical advice on symptom management and long-term wellness.
The session sparked deep reflection among the residents, many of whom are well past the menopause transition. They found the modern medical information enlightening, with many comparing today’s open support to the lack of guidance they received in their youth.
Reflecting on the past, one resident remarked "It is wonderful to see this help available now. In our day, there was simply no guidance or support. If you missed a period, the doctor would simply tell you that you were pregnant; there were no scans, no photos, and certainly no medical advice on hormonal health. We were expected to just get on with it."
Louise Ramage, Customer Relationship Manager at Elm Bank, met with Dr Ramskill and residents to discuss how these health transitions impact not only individuals but also the wider family unit.
Louise Ramage commented "It was a delight to host Dr Nikki Ramskill. Hearing our residents reflect on their own experiences was incredibly moving. It highlights how far we’ve come in women’s healthcare and why it’s so important that we continue to provide this education today. At Elm Bank, we believe in supporting every aspect of our community’s and staff’s wellbeing, regardless of their age."
Dr Nikki Ramskill added "Education is the most powerful tool we have. It was a privilege to engage with such an interested and diverse group and hear the historical perspectives of the residents. Open conversations like these are essential for ensuring women feel supported at every stage of their lives."
