Community carol service at Palmer Court connects residents and new Masons

On the 3rd December, new and young Masons from The Rushden and Wellingborough district Light Blues presented the 39 residents of the Palmer Court assisted living scheme with stockings filled with Christmas gifts.
They then joined in a carol service led by the Victorian entertainer Dr. Busker which was accompanied by mince pies and festive cheer. The event was a great success and was a powerful reminder of the value of bringing two groups of people at different stages of their life journey together in a community setting.
House Committee Chairman Ian Richards was keen to point out that “events such as the Carol Service are invaluable in enriching the lived experience of our tenants and provide an ongoing connection for the residents of the housing scheme and active members of the local community.”
The event saw notable visits from the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sylvia Erskine and Dale Gilbert, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master for Northamptonshire and Huntingdonshire, who outlined how the event and the involvement of the Light Blues was “a great example of the core values of the Fraternity in the form of integrity, respect, friendship and, especially, service being put into practice in the most profound way.”

The carol service saw members of the Light Blues lend their voices to the choir and were present to hand over the stockings. James Banaszak the Chairman of the district Light Blues led the delegation. He pointed out that “the Light Blues have supported the residents of Palmer Court for a number of years, including through COVID, and the members thoroughly enjoy the social aspect of visiting the community as well as the having the opportunity to contribute to the success of the scheme.”
Resident Dennis Nicolls mentioned “what a wonderful thing for the Light blues to do and looking through the stocking, it took me right back to when I was 5 years old because there was an orange in the bottom just like we use to get as kids at Christmas because it was the only time we would get an orange! It was a real treat, and this has brought back so many memories of fantastic days gone by!! Thank you”
At Palmer Court, we are always looking for ways to enrich the lives of our residents. If you would like to volunteer a service or activity, please contact us directly on the information below.
