As the world marks International Women’s Day, one local care home manager; Joanna Mosses is being celebrated for redefining what compassionate leadership truly looks like.

Known for her dedication to both residents and staff, she has spent years building not just a workplace, but a community grounded in wellbeing, dignity, and holistic support.

Working in the care sector demands resilience, empathy, and a deep understanding of the people being supported. For Joanna, this responsibility extends far beyond paperwork and daily routines. She has committed herself to ongoing learning, completing specialist courses designed to enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of everyone in her care.

Joanna’s journey began with training in massage therapy and reflexology, skills she now weaves into the daily life of the care home. Residents who once struggled with anxiety, chronic pain, or isolation now benefit from soothing therapies that promote relaxation and comfort. Staff, too, have felt the difference—regular wellbeing sessions have improved morale, reduced stress, and strengthened the sense of unity within the team. In an industry known for high demands, she has become an advocate for looking after the carers as much as the cared-for.

More recently, she has embarked on a new chapter: training as a menopause coach. With many women in the care workforce navigating menopause while juggling emotionally demanding roles, she recognised an unmet need. Her coaching journey is already transforming how staff feel supported, heard, and understood.

Whether helping a colleague manage symptoms at work, educating the team about hormonal health, or simply creating a safe space for conversation, she uses her new knowledge in every corner of her role. Her approach is grounded in empathy, practicality, and empowerment—qualities that have positioned her as a champion for women’s health in the workplace.

But her influence doesn’t stop at the staff room. She integrates her learning into resident care, recognising that older women in care settings often have complex experiences with menopause, hormonal changes, and long-term wellbeing needs that can go unspoken or overlooked.

On this International Women’s Day, she stands as a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose. Her commitment to continual learning, personal growth, and holistic care has created an environment where residents feel valued, staff feel supported, and the entire home feels uplifted.

Joanna’s work reminds us that investing in women’s health, emotional wellbeing, and professional development is not just an act of care—it’s an act of empowerment. In every massage therapy session, wellbeing workshop, or coaching conversation, she is shaping a more compassionate future for those around her.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate her journey - a testament to strength, learning, and the profound impact of a woman dedicated to lifting others up.
