An Irthlingborough-based charity supporting people over 18-years-old with acquired brain injuries has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt Homes Northampton.

The housebuilder has supported Headway East Northants through its Community Fund scheme, and the funding will be used to enhance activity session provision for the charity’s clients in the form of therapy sessions, such as art therapy, at its activity centre in Irthlingborough.

Laura Richards, Fundraising Co-ordinator at Headway East Northants, said: “We rely on fundraising and donations to enhance our service to provide a high level of support to our clients in our activity centre and the community. Donations like these allow us to go above and beyond to provide purposeful and engaging sessions that are unfortunately not covered via other funding streams.

“We were delighted to receive the donation, especially as we were nominated by the employees of the Northampton branch at Barratt Homes.”

Headway East Northants’ mission includes promoting an understanding and awareness of brain injury, whilst providing specialist support and services to adults with an acquired brain injury, as well as their families and carers.

It also strives to provide an outlet and environment where brain injury survivors can be alongside others in a non-judgemental, supportive, enriching and understanding environment. The charity enables its beneficiaries to access support, activities and social settings that help address the various consequences of a brain injury.

Beneficiaries of the charity are able to utilise its woodwork construction room, access musical instruments, whilst enjoying social activities such as summer barbecues and a Christmas lunch.

Laura continued: “I think Barratt Homes’ Community Fund a fantastic scheme; to allow staff members to voice their opinions and share their views on what is important to them shows that the company values its employees. To us, being nominated by local people is incredibly special as it highlights the value of our service in the community.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Barratt Homes for selecting our small charity to support! The contribution enables us to continue to provide specialist support to those living with a brain injury in our community to lead a fulfilling and purposeful life.”

Barratt Homes’ donation was made via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder builds new homes.

Simon Francis, Managing Director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “It’s important for us to support local charities helping local people, and Headway East Northants carries out a range of vital services for people in Northamptonshire.

“It’s hard to imagine the long-term effects of an acquired brain injury, but the charity works tirelessly to make life easier for those affected.”
