Thrapston nursery delighted with donation of garden tools from developer

Children at a Thrapston nursery are getting stuck into National Growing for Wellbeing Week after a green fingered donation from David Wilson Homes

Crazy4Kids Nursery, close to David Wilson Homes’ The Nurseries development, received children’s gardening tools as well as a number of sunflower seeds to help encourage nature to thrive.

National Growing for Wellbeing Week (June 7 to 13) highlights the positive effects that growing your own produce can have on your well-being, both physically and mentally.

Julie, nursery manager at Crazy4Kids’ Thrapston Nursery, said: “The children will really enjoy these kind donations and the benefits are endless.

"When growing plants and exploring this process the children can gain self-confidence, learn about responsibility as well as becoming more curious about what is around them using all their senses, and help children to have a logical way of thinking.”

A study by Anglia Ruskin University found that gardening has been linked to health benefits including improved confidence and self-esteem, while the activity has also been connected to increased communication and concentration.

The demand for gardening had grown rapidly during the UK’s first lockdown as 322 million more plants had been bought in 2020 compared with 2019, according to Gardens Illustrated.
