New sponsor for Corby Town Girls U12s team

A new sponsor has signed up for Corby Town Girls U12s team.

Zoro, a one-stop-shop for industrial consumables, tools and business supplies, has sponsored Corby Town Girls U12s football team with a new strip and training kit for the 14-strong team.

Following on from the Women’s World Cup in 2019, the emphasis on women’s, and particularly, girls’ grassroots football has increased, gaining vast media and celebrity attention in the hopes to reach equality for women’s sports.

With fundraising becoming increasingly harder due to the pandemic, the sponsorship has emerged at the right time.

Karen Renshaw, a parent of an U12s team member, said: “This year has been hard on all of us, but the grassroots sporting community has been very much undervalued.

"Not being able to train for six months of the year has had a detrimental effect on physical and mental health.

"We have been very fortunate to receive this sponsorship from Zoro UK.

"It has meant that our team has a new training kit.

"The effect it has on morale of the team to show they are recognised is huge.”

Now that national lockdown has been lifted, the team are back in training and are due to play their first game back in the next few weeks.

Chris Matenaers, marketing director at Zoro UK, said: “Grassroots sport plays a very important role and for children’s football that is especially the case for players and parents alike.

"It is a privilege to sponsor this up and coming team in their training and development, helping to pave the way for the next generation of international players.

"We enjoy supporting projects like this and we look forward to seeing how the team plays in the coming season.”

Corby Town Ladies & Girls FC has seen many players rise through the ranks into the senior team giving them the opportunity to play alongside experienced and influential footballers such as three-time Deaflympian and four-times bronze medallist, GB and England player Claire Stancliffe.
