Developers behind plans to turn a former bank into a micropub believe it could help create an 'exciting vibrant hub' in the centre of Irthlingborough.

Plans have been submitted for change of use for the former HSBC bank in Station Road, Irthlingborough, from its existing use class to A4 (micropub).

Documents submitted to East Northants Council for consideration state: "This application looks to bring a prominent building in the heart of the town back into re-use.

"The proven concept of a micropub has helped to rejuvenate other small towns.

"By offering something different they have helped to bring people into town centres who otherwise would not have been visiting.

"The building previously used as financial services (A2) and (A1) retail has unfortunately not been viable."

The documents say a planning application for additional housing to the site was 'rightly refused' by the local authority and go on to state: "Taking the above into consideration we feel that the application to change the building's use to (A4) micropub should be supported by the council.

"The proposed micropub along with the recently constructed retail units adjacent the site will all help create an exciting vibrant hub at the centre of the town."

If the application by Reece and Fisher Trading Ltd for change of use is granted, the proposed establishment would be run as a freehouse.

This means it would not be tied to any major breweries and would give the owner the ability to source real ales and craft beers along with farmhouse ciders, many of which would be sourced locally.

These would be served along with hot drinks, soft drinks and traditional pub snacks (cold food only).

The application also says: "The licensees of the new venture intend to create a social and friendly environment through their knowledge of the industry.

"Conversation will be promoted as there will be no electronic entertainment such as TVs or gaming machines."
