He's turning his passion for food into a new business for the town

A Kettering DJ is swapping his decks for an apron as he launches a new comfort food takeaway in the town.

Rhys Alford, or DJ Intense as he is better known, was used to keeping nightclub-goers bouncing until the early hours before Covid and helped bring huge names such as Stormzy to The Loft.

He has DJ'd for top grime artists such as P Money and Izzie Gibbs, and regularly performs on national radio and at leading festivals such as Glastonbury.

But now the 24-year-old is turning his passion for food into a new business and will open 'Intense Flavours' this month - offering diners a mouth-watering 'box' for £10.

Cooking up a storm from his newly-refurbished kitchen above Aura in Market Street, his first flavour box includes boneless curry chicken, garlic chilli wings, mac and cheese, spicy rice, peri butter corn and homemade coleslaw.

He is also selling loaded fries, packed with either curry chicken, pancetta and parmesan or garlic and chilli.

Rhys said: “After years of cooking at home for friends and family I've decided to take a leap in these uncertain times. My love for different cultures and their food has influenced me heavily, hence the emphasis on the flavour and variation of our food.

“Each dish is made with traditional authentic ingredients as well as locally sourced meat and vegetables. Our box is a real unique taste experience new to Kettering.”

Intense Flavours opens on Thursday, February 11, and is taking pre-orders from Monday, February 8. It is currently only available for collection but will soon be available for delivery and on JustEat.

Rhys added: “We'll be allowing a limited amount of boxes to be sold per night so we have full control of quality and quantity.

“I’ve got to give a huge thanks to Chris Robinson (owner of Aura) making this possible to work above Aura Bar and Lounge. Also, alongside myself, I have recruited head chef Craig Duffy (head chef of Lago Lounge at Rushden Lakes). Having Craig is a huge addition to the team, bringing years of experience in the kitchen with him has enabled us to really make our home cooked comfort food into a professional takeout service.”
