A popular garden centre near Sywell has re-opened today (Friday) after the Government eased coronavirus restrictions.

Beckworth Emporium in Glebe Road closed to the public on March 22 after Government advice as the pandemic escalated.

But earlier this week Downing Street announced garden centres would be able to re-open on Wednesday (May 13), with Beckworth Emporium announcing they would open their horticulture and retail food areas today.

In a statement they said: "You will be able to purchase plants, garden accessories and food items, including fresh produce, packed meat, milk and bread.

"Please note that our deli and butcher’s counter remain closed for now, as does the restaurant and customer toilets.

"In order to protect our customers and staff we will be limiting the number of customers permitted to enter the shopping areas.

"Initially, to help us adhere to government guidelines, we ask for no more than two people per household and no under 16s, with the exception of babies or young children in a pram.

"This is to minimise grouping and reduce touching of products to minimise the spread of germs."

The garden centre has now introduced a new one-way system, like the ones seen in supermarkets across the country, to help people stick to social distancing measures.

The statement added: "Our new store layout allows a one-way system and more space as our restaurant glasshouse is being used to extend the horticulture display area and this will ensure everyone is able to maintain social distancing of 2m whilst shopping.

"We are very pleased to be opening our doors on Friday and ask for your support in respecting the social distancing measures we have put in place."
