An appeal to create an area within KGH for families going through the trauma of losing a baby has received a £1,000 donation from Northamptonshire developer Barratt Homes

The Twinkling Stars Appeal was launched in November 2019 in response to feedback from parents going through baby loss.

They found the care they received from midwives was excellent, but the environment a little less compassionate.

The donation will go towards developing a brand new bereavement suite adjacent to the maternity unit so those who have lost their baby do not have to be mixed with those parents who are celebrating their new arrivals.

Jayne Chambers, former Twinkling Stars Appeal lead at KGH, said: “On behalf of all at The Twinkling Stars Appeal, I would just like to say thank you to Barratt Homes for supporting us.

"It means a great deal to our bereaved parents to have so much support from the local community.

“The pandemic has meant many of our fundraising events have had to be placed on hold.

"However, we continue to have huge support from our bereaved parents.

“Each year we care for up to 100 families who suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby, so we feel the appeal for a separate bereavement suite within the hospital is necessary.

“Thank you again to Barratt Homes for their donation, it is great to see them supporting the communities close to where they build.”

Amer Alkhalil, managing director at Barratt Homes Northampton, said: “We are so pleased to be able to support The Twinkling Stars Appeal at Kettering General Hospital and we hope the donation will help them get one step closer to the new bereavement suite.

“The new area within the hospital will truly help so many families whilst they grieve their loss.”
