Action starts to assess damage of Covid-19 to county economy

Work has started to gauge the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on businesses across Northamptonshire.

Employers are being urged to take part in the first survey to assess the damage done to local economy and the difficulties now faced by businesses.

Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce which is carrying out the economic survey for the second quarter of the year, said: “When we carried out the first quarter survey, the Covid-19 outbreak was in the early stages and yet was already being stated as a significant concern to businesses.

“Since then, the country has seen a range of social distancing measures introduced, which has had an enormous impact on businesses.

“By participating in this survey, firms will help give an accurate picture of the extent of the difficulties they are facing.

“Businesses can help us to give an accurate picture of the state of the county’s economy and strengthen our voice when we are fighting their corner.

“We have been working closely with our members to lobby the government throughout this crisis to ensure members’ concerns are addressed.

He added: “I implore everyone to fill in this survey and give us the data we need to accurately address the challenges industry is facing.”
