Top villain Angela undergoes a transformation for Fairy role

Angela Webb, pictured, who played Iris Scott in Crossroads, is to appear as the Good Fairy in Beauty and the Beast coming to The Deco Theatre in Northampton which she is looking forward to.

“It’s great to be in Northampton, and lovely to be doing Panto again – I missed out last year, so I’m really looking forward to a great season this Christmas.

“The Deco in Northampton has established a reputation within the profession for producing excellent Pantos, and from what I’ve been hearing, the same is being said by local people in the town, because the response since we launched the Panto earlier this month has been amazing.

“But all credit to the producers: they not only put on a great show, but they make it affordable for all, and it’s wonderful that so many people are coming to the theatre. Our job is to make sure it’s a memorable visit.”

Iris was a scheming maid in the Crossroads Motel, one of those characters that the public loved to hate, but sometimes loved. Angela’s portrayal of the character clearly made an impact, and when she won the nomination as TV’s biggest bitch, she even beat Dame Joan Collins, who at the time was playing the much loathed character Alexis Carrington in the US series Dynasty.

“Ha, ha: happy days,” chuckled Angela. “I clearly made an impact, but it was a massive compliment to me as a performer, because Iris and myself were so unlike, so I was thrilled to bits. And it was a big boost for Crossroads, too, because Dynasty was massive at the time.

“But those days have long gone, and I’m full of joy and fairy dust now – off stage, and on it!” said Angela, who played Iris Scott between 1980 and 1983, and since those days has appeared in numerous stage productions all over the country.

And Angela assures us that the Good Fairy in ‘Beauty And The Beast’ will not be transformed into an Iris Scott character at any time during the show.

“Not at all, I won’t have it! This fairy is full of love and happiness who makes dreams come true! Just how I like to be, myself!”
