The co-production with English Touring Theatre and Rose Theatre Kingston runs from Friday February 5 to Saturday February 27.

Auditions will take place at the theatre on Thursday December 17 between 4pm to 8pm.

Peter Whelan’s moving and uplifting play provides a beautiful evocation of Elizabethan England, as it reveals the secret life of Shakespeare’s daughter, based upon real events in Stratford-upon-Avon in the summer of 1613.

Director James Dacre is looking for girls aged between 6 and 8 years old to play the role of Shakespeare’s granddaughter, who makes two short appearances in the play, and has some lines to say.

The three young actors will rotate between performances. The girls need to have good concentration and acting ability. There will be some early evening rehearsals in weeks commencing 18 and 25 January, with some daytime rehearsals the following week.

Children must be available for rehearsals and performances as scheduled until the show finishes on 27 February.

More information about the roles and rehearsal dates is included in the audition registration pack.

The auditions take place on Thursday 17 December with 15 minute slots available from 4pm to 8pm at the theatre and parents must pre-register, by Tuesday 15 December. Auditions will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and applicants will be asked to prepare a short scene.

To register and get a timed slot to attend, download a registration form and audition notes from the theatre’s website (on the What’s On page for The Herbal Bed) or pick up a form at the theatre’s Box Office. For more information contact John Manning on 01604 655784 or email [email protected]

The Herbal Bed can be seen on the Royal stage from 5 to 27 February. For more information about performance times and ticket prices, or to book, call the Box Office on 01604 624811, or visit
