Community Bereavement Project launches fundraising campaign for Suicide Prevention Bench and new Suicide Bereavement Support Group

A local community project “The Seddon Legacy Project” has launched a new fundraising campaign to install a dedicated Suicide Prevention Bench while also announcing the creation of a new support group for families bereaved by suicide.
The initiative aims to create both a visible reminder that support is available and a safe space for those affected by suicide to connect, talk, and find understanding within their community.
The project is fundraising for “Legend on the Bench”.
Legend-on-the-Bench is a non-profit making charity set up by ex-professional footballer, Micky Hazard, and his sister Michelle following the tragic death of Michelle’s son Jason Lee Mead, with the aim of reducing the number of such tragedies recorded each year due to mental health issues or suicides.

The Suicide Prevention Bench will be installed at the Embankment in Wellingborough and will feature messaging encouraging anyone struggling with their mental health to pause, reflect, and reach out for help. Anne-Marie (founder of The Seddon Legacy Project) hopes the bench will serve as a symbol of hope and a reminder that nobody has to face their struggles alone.
Alongside the fundraising campaign, The Seddon Legacy Project” is launching a new peer-led support group specifically for families, children and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide. The group will provide a confidential, compassionate environment where people can share their experiences, access support, and connect with others who understand the unique challenges of suicide bereavement. This is due to be held at Cafe 16:15, Hamblin Court Rushden on 24th March from 4-5.30pm.
Anne-Marie from The Seddon Legacy Project said: “Due to my personal experiences, I’ve always wanted to hold a space for families like ours.
Bereaved by suicide and part of a club, none of us expected or want to be in.
Hopefully, this reaches those of you who seek comfort and understanding, in a safe space with others who get it.
Café 16:15 is holding a space for us to hold conversation for those who want, craft for children who attend and even better – the opportunity for a slice of cake and coffee”
The Seddon Legacy Project is encouraging members of the public, local organisations, and businesses to get involved by donating, fundraising, or helping to raise awareness.
There will also be a fundraising Quiz night, held at The Stags Head Pub in Great Doddington on Friday 10th April, in support to contribute to the fundraiser.
Anyone interested in supporting the campaign or joining the bereavement support group is encouraged to get in touch with The Seddon Legacy Project.
