Chapter One Café & Bookshop
My name is Anna Patera and I run Chapter One Café & Bookshop in Corby. I opened this place with one dream - to create a warm, homely corner where people can relax, connect and feel a little bit of calm in the middle of a busy day.
Chapter One is a small independent café, but it has quickly grown into something much more: a community space filled with local talent and creativity.
One of the things we are proud of is supporting local authors. We collect their books and help them sell their work, showing that Corby is full of gifted writers whose voices deserve to be seen. Every book on our shelf has a story behind it - and it comes from someone in our town.
We also showcase handmade items created by members of our community. We have a lady who makes beautiful hand-crafted bags, another who creates personalised greeting cards and bookmarks, and a talented maker who brings us her handmade decorations.
Every piece is made with heart, and every shelf in the café shows the creativity living right here in Corby.
Our space is also becoming a small hub for local meet-ups.
Every Thursday at 5 pm we host a Discover Craft Club - a friendly group full of creativity, laughter and shared ideas.
We are now opening the café to workshops and community events.
We welcome anyone who would like to organise a talk, a creative session, a class or a meet-up. The atmosphere is quiet, warm and perfect for small gatherings. If someone from our local area would like to run an event, we would love to hear from them.
In December we are preparing a Polish Christmas carol evening. More details will be available soon on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Chapter One was created from passion, not from a large budget - and seeing it slowly turn into a place where people come together has been incredibly meaningful. We hope to continue building this small, warm community space for Corby.
