Alex Day labelled his debut experience ‘really special’ after delivering two tries to propel Saints to victory against Gloucester.

The 20-year-old scrum-half scored twice in the space of five second-half minutes after replacing Ryan Glynn in the LV= Cup opener at Franklin’s Gardens.

Day’s quickfire double ensured Saints accelerated to a 33-6 success, picking up a bonus point in the process.

And the youngster clearly savoured every minute of his first outing for Saints’ senior side.

“It’s always nice get a try, especially on your home patch, so to get two was amazing,” said Day.

“But the forwards did the hard work and I just finished it off so a big round of applause for them. They did a great job.

“I’ve been on the bench before and not got on so it was nice to get on and play in front of a packed house at Franklin’s Gardens.

“It was really special and I’m really pleased.”
