Steelmen playing for pride on the final day but Wright insists that should be enough

The already-relegated Steelmen round off their Vanarama National League North campaign with a trip to play-off contenders Harrogate Town tomorrow (Saturday).

Wright’s team final home game of the season ended in a 3-0 defeat to Stalybridge Celtic at Steel Park last weekend.

And while they will be heavy underdogs for the clash at Harrogate, the Steelmen boss insists he will bid to keep his players going for one final effort before preparations for next season get under way.

“I would not want people thinking that I have sent a team up there just to play the game out,” Wright said.

“We have had the boys in this week and I just want to keep them going and see if we can try to win a game.

“Everyone who is in our team tomorrow will have earned their place and they have an opportunity to go and win a game.

“We are only playing for pride but that should be enough. I want them to do everything possible to finish the season on a high note.”

Corby will be without defender Edi Appleton for this weekend’s game, with Wright confirming he will need an operation on his knee.

And there will also be checks on Liam Marshall and Callum Ball before the Steelmen boss selects his team.

“Edi is going to need an operation on his knee, which I believe he will have at the beginning of June,” Wright added.

“Liam Marshall had to come off at the weekend but we are hoping he didn’t suffer a broken nose and he will be fit.

“But we will have to see on Callum because he has been limping around after taking a knock on his shin.”
